“The great purpose of Taiji is the great purpose of life itself – internal evolution.
All are born to this but most quickly forget why they are here.”

(Patrick Kelly)

Principles for successful Taiji practice

What causes growth of the deep mind (heart, soul) is ‘good’ and what blocks the growth is ‘bad’. In order to progress:
1. Train twice or more times per week (an effort to stimulate internal growth)
2. Develop humility, gratitude and respect (to counter the outer-self attributes that prevent growth (spiritual pride).

Humility, Gratitude and Respect

Quietly inside yourself, with no outward show, aim to:

  • give respect to the inner self of others
  • feel gratitude for the inner teachings and those involved in passing it down
  • experience humility in the face of the Spirit

The ego can be recognised by the opposite

  1. demands an outward show of respect from others
  2. takes what it has been given and changes it to suit itself
  3. believes it knows and understands all which has been passed down from above

John Carter
Forty years ago, at my very first class as a beginner with Patrick Kelly I had no concept whatsoever of what the practice of Taiji was really about –  just liked the look of it and it felt wonderful! From that superficial starting point, many years passed while slowly awakening to the deep experience of training internally, both the body and the Mind. My fascination has never diminished.

Peter Batchelor
I have been training taiji for 30-plus years at the taiji school.
The training has been a very important part of my life’s journey.
Taiji has been a constant path of something real to give stability in outer life’s ups and downs.
Taiji has helped to give me resilience, a strong healthy system and a powerful practice of inner growth which I greatly appreciate.
I feel privileged to train in a system with a strong genuine lineage.

Wendy Gray
Twenty-five years ago when the opportunity came to learn Taiji there was no question, it was encoded in my life path. The surprise was to learn from my British teacher that his master was a New Zealander. For 13 years I trained with a group of Patrick Kelly’s students in London’s Holland Park, regularly attending his workshops in Europe. Returning to New Zealand in 2011, I trained with Patrick Kelly’s Taiji School in Auckland CBD, and continue to travel to his workshops in Europe regularly.
The development of the inner processes has enriched my experience of life and expanded my understanding of it. A process which is never-ending. The physical practice of taiji strengthens the body and its energies. It becomes a moving mediation which affects how you relate to the world and to those you meet.
Patrick closed his New Zealand Taiji school at the end of 2022 and Auckland Taiji was established at Pt Chevalier Sailing Club.

We look forward to serving those who wish to travel the Taiji path to internal evolution and physical well-being.

An ancient pōhutukawa appears to be in taiji flow.
